COOLWALL® FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
COOLWALL® FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
The system uses the same heat-reflective technology that the military uses to reduce solar heat on their vehicles and planes. COOLWALL® reflects solar heat by changing the non-visible portion of the light spectrum.
Compared to traditional paint, COOLWALL® tends to be on average ten times thicker and contains infrared heat reflective pigments. Regular paint doesn’t contain heat-reflective pigments and usually needs to be repainted every 3-7 years. A great benefit of COOLWALL® is that it lasts a lifetime, so it doesn’t need to be re-applied!
The COOLWALL® system is designed to last homeowner’s lifetime! Testing has shown that the COOLWALL® System will still look brand new after more than ten years of exposure.
Yes, it can help you save money on your cooling bills. COOLWALL® has been found by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory to reduce cooling costs from 4.2%-21.9%. This range depends on your climate, color, geographic location, and so on.
The recoating process involves three steps:
- Cleaning of the surface that COOLWALL® will be applied to
- When recoating a surface with a different color, a COOLWALL® primer and finish may be added
- When recoating a surface with the same color, primer may not be necessary but is always recommended
There are a wide variety of available colors for the COOLWALL® System, with over 952 vibrant colors to choose from.
By reflecting the light spectrum’s non-visible portion, the system can keep surfaces cool while leaving the color relatively unaffected.
A Wall System R-value describes the effectiveness of insulating materials. COOLWALL® doesn’t work by an insulation process; it instead reflects the sun’s infrared energy, preventing it from getting too hot in the first place. Because it does not have insulating materials, it doesn’t have an R-value.
These values relate to the noticeable color change from fading. A color difference fading of 1 DELTA (Δ) is noticeable to the average person’s eye, 2 DELTA (Δ) becomes more apparent, and a color difference fading of 3 DELTA (Δ) is very evident to most people.
COOLWALL® has very minor effects on existing paint as it relates to stress. The previous paint should be clean and sound with proper adhesion. COOLWALL® will look and function the same regardless of whether it’s applied to existing paint or a surface that’s never been painted before.
