COOLWALL® FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
COOLWALL® FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
COOLWALL® refreshes your home’s exterior while allowing you to choose from many available colors. Its heat-reflective technology works without restricting your exterior to white or a limited selection of light colors.
COOLWALL® helps reduce the solar heat absorbed by exterior walls, which may improve indoor comfort. Individual results can vary based on insulation, wall exposure, home construction, weather, and other conditions.
Yes. The coating reflects infrared solar heat away from exterior walls, helping lower surface temperatures. Cooler walls can reduce heat transfer into the home and may decrease air-conditioning demand during hot weather.
Yes. COOLWALL® is engineered to resist fading while maintaining its color and adhesion. Its heat-reflective technology also reduces thermal stress that may contribute to cracking, peeling, and premature coating deterioration.
Yes. By maintaining lower exterior wall temperatures, less heat migrates into your home, helping maintain a balanced indoor climate.
It relies on infrared-reflective pigments that bounce solar energy away from your walls rather than absorbing it, drastically reducing surface heat.
TEX•COTE® COOLWALL® is designed to provide a durable, low-maintenance exterior finish with excellent resistance to fading and weather exposure. It also helps reduce the expansion and contraction that can occur when exterior surfaces repeatedly heat and cool.
Yes. TEX•COTE® COOLWALL® may lower exterior wall surface temperatures by as much as 40°F compared to many traditional exterior paints. Actual results can vary depending on the home, climate, color, and level of sun exposure.
The system uses the same heat-reflective technology that the military uses to reduce solar heat on their vehicles and planes. COOLWALL® reflects solar heat by changing the non-visible portion of the light spectrum.
Compared to traditional paint, COOLWALL® tends to be on average ten times thicker and contains infrared heat reflective pigments. Regular paint doesn’t contain heat-reflective pigments and usually needs to be repainted every 3-7 years. A great benefit of COOLWALL® is that it lasts a lifetime, so it doesn’t need to be re-applied!
The COOLWALL® system is designed to last homeowner’s lifetime! Testing has shown that the COOLWALL® System will still look brand new after more than ten years of exposure.
Yes, it can help you save money on your cooling bills. COOLWALL® has been found by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory to reduce cooling costs from 4.2%-21.9%. This range depends on your climate, color, geographic location, and so on.
The recoating process involves three steps:
- Cleaning of the surface that COOLWALL® will be applied to
- When recoating a surface with a different color, a COOLWALL® primer and finish may be added
- When recoating a surface with the same color, primer may not be necessary but is always recommended
There are a wide variety of available colors for the COOLWALL® System, with over 952 vibrant colors to choose from.
By reflecting the light spectrum’s non-visible portion, the system can keep surfaces cool while leaving the color relatively unaffected.
A Wall System R-value describes the effectiveness of insulating materials. COOLWALL® doesn’t work by an insulation process; it instead reflects the sun’s infrared energy, preventing it from getting too hot in the first place. Because it does not have insulating materials, it doesn’t have an R-value.
These values relate to the noticeable color change from fading. A color difference fading of 1 DELTA (Δ) is noticeable to the average person’s eye, 2 DELTA (Δ) becomes more apparent, and a color difference fading of 3 DELTA (Δ) is very evident to most people.
COOLWALL® has very minor effects on existing paint as it relates to stress. The previous paint should be clean and sound with proper adhesion. COOLWALL® will look and function the same regardless of whether it’s applied to existing paint or a surface that’s never been painted before.
